GM’s Turbocharged 1.3-liter Engine Earns Spot on Ward’s 10 Best Engines’ List

Wards Auto recently published its 10 Best Engines’ List for 2021, and the 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine from General Motors, which powers both the 2021 and 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, snagged a coveted spot.

“We score based on horsepower, torque, NVH management, observed fuel economy and new technology onboard. That new technology must shine to make the cut. A price cap for nominees that had been in place since 1995 has now been removed,” reports Tom Murphy, management editor of Wards Auto.

Only engines that were completely new or posted significant improvements were contenders for the 2021 list. Eighteen of the vehicles the staff reviewed utilized electrified powertrains.

“There were 14 four-cylinder engines, 11 six-cylinder engines, 10 full hybrids, eight BEVs, and three plug-in hybrids,” according to Murphy.

The 1.3-liter ECOTEC Turbo engine from GM generates ratings of 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. When under the hood of a FWD-enabled 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, this engine earns EPA-estimated ratings of 29 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. [1] AWD is also available on the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer. With the 1.3-liter turbocharged engine, an AWD-equipped 2022 Trailblazer earns 26 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.[2]

Idle Vehicle Service - Portland, ME

Whether we are keeping our distance or summering in another locale, many of us are driving less than usual recently. To help make sure your idle vehicle stays in excellent working condition while you are using it infrequently, the service experts at Quirk Chevrolet of Portland, ME, have compiled a few maintenance tips to follow.

  • Keep it Covered: As we enter the warm summer months on the east coast, make sure you’re keeping your car securely covered if possible to avoid damage to your car’s exterior. Bright sun and exposure to the elements can cause your vehicle’s paint to fade, so make sure it’s parked in a (preferably climate-controlled) garage or safe inside a soft material.
  • Take it for a Spin: To alleviate boredom and prevent engine fluids from stagnating, take your vehicle out for a brief drive around the block. This will keep your car in fighting shape by charging the battery and allowing fluids to circulate through the engine.
  • Complete Backlogged Maintenance: If you have been putting off important vehicle maintenance because you lack time, now is the perfect opportunity to visit the Quirk Chevy of Portland, ME service department to catch up. Our service department is open to you if your car needs service.

Call Quirk Chevy’s service department in Portland, ME, if you have any questions about keeping your vehicle healthy while it is idle.
