The next-gen 2019 Silverado shook the industry with its spectacular six-powertrain lineup, and Chevy is raising the bar even further with the new 2020 model. The 2020 Chevrolet Silverado will offer a new 3.0-liter inline-six Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine, the first of its kind to ever appear in a Chevrolet full-size light-duty truck.
The new 3.0-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel engine will offer tons of advanced power and capability, delivering everything you need on and off the worksite. The engine pumps out 277 horsepower, 460 lb-ft of torque, and comes paired with a durable, smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission. Intrigued? The engine will be available on the LT, RST, LTZ, and High Country trim levels.
Chevy engineers couldn’t be prouder of the advanced engine. As Nicola Menarini, the director for Diesel Truck Engine Program Execution, stated, “From the moment the engine is started, to its idle, acceleration and highway cruising, the 3.0-liter Duramax performance will change perceptions of what a diesel engine can offer in refinement.” The 3.0-liter Duramax engine is built strong but light, balancing performance and efficient design. It employs an array of advanced technologies, including exhaust braking, which uses the engine’s compression to help slow the vehicle when towing and hauling. To stay cool and ensure that the engine is always ready to go, the engine uses GM-exclusive Active Thermal Management technology
Initially, the engine was slated to be released for the 2019 model year, but it took a bit longer than anticipated. Alongside this smart new engine, the 2020 Silverado will offer advanced features like Adaptive Cruise Control.
