Chevrolet Tahoe | Portland, ME

The Chevrolet Tahoe is one of the most iconic full-size SUVs in the world, perhaps only rivaled by its larger sibling, the Suburban. In its 25-year history, the Tahoe has combined segment-leading levels of practicality, high-tech features, and sheer rugged style. Take a look at the history of the Chevrolet Tahoe to see how far it’s come.

It Started in 1995

The first Tahoe launched in 1995 as a rebadged Chevy K5 Blazer sharing a platform with both the Suburban and the Yukon. It could seat up to six passengers in both two- and four-door configurations. Thanks to its ruggedness and capability, it was soon sought after by government agencies, and Chevy quickly began creating the Tahoe pursuit vehicle for law enforcement. A short while later, the military started using the Tahoe too.

Teenage Years

The Chevy Tahoe grew into its own as it entered new generation after generation in 2000, 2007, and 2015. Its first major redesign saw the introduction of a third row, expanding seating for up to nine passengers. The third-gen model improved aerodynamics and eventually added a hybrid model. In 2015, the Tahoe became truly modernized, with such features as automatic emergency braking and standard built-in Wi-Fi®.

Fifth Generation

For the 2021 model year, the Tahoe is entering its fifth generation. It includes a host of significant upgrades like more standard safety features, a cool adaptive suspension, and a new turbodiesel engine. We’re excited to see where Chevy takes the Tahoe from there.
