For the first time in almost ten years, a diesel engine will be available on the 2019 Silverado 1500. This noteworthy addition has caused a bigger stir by bringing the Silverado 1500 to the top spot when it comes to best-in-class power, beating out Ford and Ram.
The engine making these waves with its reveal is the new 3.0-liter Duramax inline-6 turbodiesel that operates on a 10-speed automatic transmission with rear- or available all-wheel drive. This configuration pumps out 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque and makes use of turbo technology for rapid on-demand power. The closest competing vehicle, the Ford F-150, falls short by 27 horsepower and 20 lb-ft of torque.
Exact towing specifications as well as fuel economy ratings have not been released, but going off of the numbers revealed so far, it is safe to say that more buzz is in store for the Duramax turbodiesel engine configuration before it goes on sale this summer.
