Should I Buy the 2022 Silverado 1500 LTD or Next-Gen 1500?

With both the carryover 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD and the next-generation 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 available at Quirk Chevrolet of Portland, it can be difficult to choose which truck is right for you.

The next-gen Chevrolet Silverado 1500 adds brand-new technologies like Super Cruise®, a hands-free driving system, as well as proven technology like the Chevy Safety Assist Suite. It also offers the truck’s new flagship version, the ZR2, which specializes in tackling tough terrain and off-road situations in Maine.

The Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD still pulls its weight, though. It comes with a lower starting price (always a plus for budget-conscious buyers in Portland), and tops the next-gen version in available camera views. The LTD’s camera system offers you up to 15 different views, letting you monitor tricky movements with confidence.

Despite their differences, both trucks are Silverados, and there is a lot of overlap in terms of their features. Both offer up to 13,300 pounds of trailering capability, best-in-class bed volume, and the six-function Multi-Flex Tailgate. Their engines options are largely the same as well, with three different gas engines and one diesel offering to choose from.

Which Silverado will work best for you is something only you can decide. Talking with an expert can help you decide, so visit Quirk Chevrolet of Portland to learn more about both trucks in person at our dealership.

2023 Corvette Z06 Raises $3.6M for Operation Homefront

The first retail 2023 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 70th Anniversary Edition sold for a record $3.6 million at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction — and 100 percent of the sale will go directly to Operation Homefront. Chevrolet has proudly supported this national nonprofit since 2017.

Operation Homefront offers military families opportunities to thrive through programs for Critical Financial Assistance, transitional and permanent housing, and caregiver support services. They even provide recurring family support for everything from baby showers and holiday programs to backpacks filled with school supplies.

Besides its charitable achievements, the new Corvette Z06 gives much to talk about. For starters, it’s powered by the all-new 5.5-liter LT6 — the highest horsepower, naturally-aspirated V8 ever put into a production car. The hand-built engine achieves an incredible 670 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, redlining at 8,600 rpm.

Engineers pushed the boundaries on capability with the Corvette Z06. Success is showcased in the supercar’s wider stance, which accommodates 20-inch front and 21-inch rear wheels and increases airflow through side air vents; its unique front and rear fascias, which optimize cooling; and much more.

2022 Chevy Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss is Going Diesel

2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LTD Trail Boss | Portland, ME

Chevrolet has announced that its half-ton Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss will finally be available with the 3.0-liter Duramax® turbodiesel six-cylinder. Producing 277 horsepower and 460 lb-ft of torque, this is a workhorse of an engine that delivers exceptional capability as well as strong fuel economy.

The Duramax® engine was one of the most highly requested engines for the popular four-wheel-drive Trail Boss model, which is a version of the Silverado that focuses on off-road performance. Trucks with the Trail Boss package already get Goodyear® Wrangler DuraTrac® all-terrain tires, off-road-tuned shocks, a two-inch suspension lift kit, a locking differential, skid plates, and red tow hooks.

Despite all of these performance-enhancing goodies, the Trail Boss gets an impressive 25 miles per gallon combined in four-wheel-drive applications, and up to 29 miles per gallon on the highway. [1]

General Motors plans to eliminate fuel-burning engines by 2035, but in the meantime, the Duramax® engine provides a nice option to customers seeking uncompromised capability that can still save them a buck at the gas station.

It’s one thing to read about the Duramax® engine, but it’s another thing entirely to actually feel all of that torque. Visit Quirk Chevrolet of Portland, Maine, to get behind the wheel of the new 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LT Trail Boss!

Bad Alternator Signs

Quirk Chevrolet | Portland, ME

The alternator is an important part of your vehicle. It keeps your car battery charged. If it stops working, you won’t be able to start the engine, or it will turn itself off after a few minutes. However, before it reaches that stage, there are some warning signs of a failing alternator.

Dead Battery

Most of the time, a dead battery is just a dead battery. However, sometimes, the battery dies because the alternator is going bad. One way to tell is to get a jumpstart. If your car starts and stays running, it is most likely a battery issue. However, if your car stops running again shortly after the jumpstart, it could be your alternator.

Inconsistent Lights

In addition to charging the battery, the alternator also powers your car’s electronic accessories. If it is starting to fail, you may notice lights that are either too dim or too bright. You might also see flickering or erratic lights.

Malfunctioning Accessories

Your car’s power windows are controlled by the alternator. If you notice it is taking longer than usual to go up or down or your electronic indicators are going haywire, this is a good sign your alternator is going bad.

Battery Warning Light

If you see a warning light that is in the shape of a car battery, this is a good indication that something is wrong with the electrical system, including the alternator.

If you notice any of these signs, have your vehicle’s alternator serviced at Quirk Chevrolet of Portland in Portland, Maine.

Differences Between the 2022 Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer

2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer | Portland, ME

The Trax and Trailblazer are both compact, capable family vehicles. However, they differ in terms of size, powertrain options, and tech features. To help you decide which model is right for your family, here’s a look at how the 2022 Chevrolet Trax and Trailblazer differ.

Powertrain

The 2022 Trailblazer offers two choices — a standard 1.2-liter turbo that produces 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, as well as an available 1.3-liter engine that kicks it up a notch with 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. The Trax, on the other hand, offers just one engine. Its 1.4-liter turbo gives you 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque.

Spaciousness

If space is a priority, the Trailblazer might be a better fit for your family. It offers a bit more room to stretch out, as well as a maximum cargo capacity of 54.4 cubic feet. The Trax is more suited to an urban lifestyle that requires a nimble, compact vehicle. It still offers plenty of space, with a total of 48.4 cubic feet with the seats folded flat.

High-tech amenities

When it comes to safety tech, the 2022 Trailblazer comes standard with the family-friendly Chevy Safety Assist bundle. This suite contains six active safety technologies, like Rear Cross-Traffic Alert and Automatic Emergency Braking. The Trax, on the other hand, comes standard with essentials like a rearview camera and air bags.

You can find both of these family-friendly, functional models at Quirk Chevrolet of Portland in Portland, Maine.

GM’s Turbocharged 1.3-liter Engine Earns Spot on Ward’s 10 Best Engines’ List

2021 Chevrolet Trailblazer in a desert

Wards Auto recently published its 10 Best Engines’ List for 2021, and the 1.3-liter turbocharged three-cylinder engine from General Motors, which powers both the 2021 and 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, snagged a coveted spot.

“We score based on horsepower, torque, NVH management, observed fuel economy and new technology onboard. That new technology must shine to make the cut. A price cap for nominees that had been in place since 1995 has now been removed,” reports Tom Murphy, management editor of Wards Auto.

Only engines that were completely new or posted significant improvements were contenders for the 2021 list. Eighteen of the vehicles the staff reviewed utilized electrified powertrains.

“There were 14 four-cylinder engines, 11 six-cylinder engines, 10 full hybrids, eight BEVs, and three plug-in hybrids,” according to Murphy.

The 1.3-liter ECOTEC Turbo engine from GM generates ratings of 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. When under the hood of a FWD-enabled 2022 Chevrolet Trailblazer, this engine earns EPA-estimated ratings of 29 mpg in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. [1] AWD is also available on the 2022 Chevy Trailblazer. With the 1.3-liter turbocharged engine, an AWD-equipped 2022 Trailblazer earns 26 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway.[2]

Test-drive the Chevrolet Trailblazer and feel the power of its notable 1.3-liter engine at Quirk Chevrolet of Portland in Portland, Maine.

5 Products to Improve Your Family Road Trip

2022 Chevrolet Equinox | Portland, ME

Going on a family road trip? These are five products you simply must bring along to make your vacation more relaxing and enjoyable!

  1. Sun Protection. If you put on sun screen when going outside, you should also get sun protection in your car. Sun shades not only protect your little ones from UV rays but also keep the car cool, making it easier for children to rest.
  2. Travel Potty. Children don’t care about timetables, especially when it comes to long road trips. Packing a portable, foldable toilet can help you save time you’d otherwise have to spend in a dingy gas station bathroom.
  3. Multipurpose Travel Tray. Kids need a lot of items to stay entertained in the car, and they need them all in one place. A multipurpose travel tray is the perfect solution — it’s a snack tray, item holder, and lap desk all in one.
  4. Motion Soothers. For children, one of the most common forms of motion sickness is car sickness. Some over-the-counter medication can help alleviate the symptoms. Gentle acupressure bracelets are an alternative, natural, and reusable option.
  5. Portable Cooler. There’s nothing quite like a tasty snack to revitalize one’s mood on a long road trip, but some foods are best enjoyed cold. Invest in a portable cooler to store those healthy drinks and snacks.

At the end of the day, the most important product for making your family adventure as awesome as possible is a spacious SUV with lots of amenities. Check out the Chevy Equinox or Chevy Blazer at Quirk Chevrolet of Portland in Portland, Maine, to make the most of your next road trip!
